What is Pediatric Holistic and Integrative Occupational Therapy?

Pediatric Holistic and Integrative Occupational Therapy is an approach that looks at each child’s strengths and areas of challenge, and then offers a combination of conventional and complementary therapy interventions to create a personalized therapy plan that suits the needs of each specific child, family, and situation. Our therapy approach aims to promote development and growth in all areas of mind (cognition), body, and spirit/essence.

What is pediatric pelvic floor occupational therapy (PPF OT)?

Pediatric Pelvic Floor OT is a non-invasive, evidenced-based approach that can be very effective in helping your child gain control and independence with bowel and bladder function across all environments, while participating in a variety of functional activities with confidence and continence!

What do you mean by non-invasive?

There are no internal exams (vaginal or rectal) with the pediatric population, only visual inspections of the perineum will be conducted to observe the following: skin irritation or redness from soiled underclothing, pelvic floor muscle contraction to see if the child understand how to appropriately use the muscles, and normal sensation and reflexes of the anus with light touch. It is a requirement that a parent or parent authorized caregiver is present with the child and therapist for the entire duration of each session. Some treatments include the use of computer-assisted exercise commonly called biofeedback for purposes of muscle strengthening or lengthening or a combination of both techniques. Muscle relaxation techniques, behavioral and diet modification and a home exercise routine are all part of the treatment strategy.

Do you accept insurance?

We do not accept insurance and are a fee for service based clinical practice. Payment is due at time of service. Upon request, and as a courtesy, we can provide a “superbill” for clients to submit to their insurance company directly to seek reimbursement. This process requires information prior to the creation of a “superbill”. Please let us know prior to your first appointment, if this is something you are interested in, and we can guide you in the process.
